The 48" width covers most standard windows without seaming, and the 48" x 84" size works well for full-length glass doors.

Pick a sheet that's at least 2 inches wider and taller than your window frame opening. This gives you enough material to attach it to the frame and trim the excess cleanly. The 48" x 72" sheet covers most standard medium-to-large windows; go with 48" x 84" for tall windows or glass doors. When in doubt, size up — the vinyl cuts easily with scissors.

For a single-season shrink kit, 1–2 mil is standard — but it tears easily and hazes over time. For a durable, reusable window cover, 6 mil is the sweet spot: thick enough to hold its shape and block drafts effectively, yet still flexible enough to cut with scissors and handle without cracking. The sheet ships folded, so some fold lines are normal. For indoor storm windows where clarity matters, lay the sheet flat in a warm room for a few hours before installing — the vinyl relaxes and most creases disappear. Alternatively, use a hair dryer on low heat to gently warm and smooth the surface. If near-optical clarity is critical, the sheet performs best in well-lit rooms where minor fold lines aren't noticeable.
